120 MMS August 2017 mmsonline.com TOOLING AND WORKHOLDING Sandvik Coromant Inc. has introduced the GC2220 dedicated turning insert optimized for stainless steel materials that offers increased productivity, increased tool life and improved machine utiliza- tion. The GC2220 has been designed to of fer higher resistance to plastic deformation and provide greater edge-line security. The insert is a CVD-coated, gradient-sintered carbide designed spe- cifically for processes r a n g i n g f r o m s e m i - finishing to rough turning under stable conditions w h e r e h i g h e r w e a r resistance is required. S a n d v i k C o r o m a n t 's Inveio coating provides unidirectional cr ystal orientation in the alumina coating layer, delivering higher levels of wear resistance and tool life. This technology is supported by a columnar MT-TiCN inner coating, which is hard and resistant against abrasive wear. The insert is designed to give machine shops more cutting-tool flexibility and to benefit manu- facturers focusing on external and internal turning operations in austenitic and duplex stainless steel components. The GC2220 is available for the CoroTurn 107, CoroTurn TR and T-Max P. Sandvik Coromant Inc., call 201-794-5000 or visit sandvik.coromant.com. EXPANDED LINE OF TAPS HANDLE A RANGE OF MATERIALS Emuge has added 87 new SKUs to its MultiTap TURNING INSERT OFFERS GREATER RESISTANCE, EDGE-LINE SECURITY E D ITO R J E D D CO LE , jc o l e @ m m s o n l i n e.c o m line of taps designed to cut a range of materials including carbon steel, steel alloys, stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, copper, brass and bronze. MultiTap features a geometric design along with a base material and surface treatment designed to enable the taps to handle a range of materials and applications. The company says that the line eliminates the need to stock numerous types of taps in the tool crib. MultiTap is designed to pro- duce threads within both 2B and 3B classes of fit, removing guesswork from choosing the correct H limits. The tool is made of high-vanadium cobalt high speed steel (HSS-E), nitrided with an Ne2 surface treatment or TiCN coating for extended tool life. It is available in both spiral-point and spiral-flute configurations for through- or blind- hole applications. Tap size s include UNC or UNF threads, ranging from #4 to #40, 1" to 12"
