T he machine's torque -tube -bed design, combined with a flow-through system that circulates oil and coolant through the base, provides rigidity and thermal stability. PRODUCTION MACHINE GRINDS INTERNAL DIAMETERS WITH HIGH SPEED, PRECISION post-process gaging. Other features include an acoustic emission monitoring system (AEMS), automatic taper adjustment and a FANUC i CNC, as well as various dressing options. Fives ID grinding systems are equipped with L a n d i s- B r ya nt s p i n d l e s th at c o nta i n s u p e r- precision bearings, enabling operation at high speeds. They are powered by induction motors that are said to promote efficient machining. Fives Landis Corp., call 877-557-6677 or visit fivesgroup.com/landis. LINEAR MOTOR ENSURES SMOOTH A XIS MOVEMENT FOR TOOL GRINDERS ANCA Motion's LinX linear motor technology is designed to provide manufacturers the toolmak- ing capability to produce highly polished flutes and gash surfaces to improve chip evacuation and aid tool performance. The smoother surface enables chips to exit more freely, preventing chip packing and material buildup, for example, when machining softer or ductile materials. Ac c o rding to th e c o m pa ny, a hig hl y r igid machine with a cylindrical linear motor, such as Independent slides in the X and Z axes, each mounted directly to the machine bed, provide a low center of gravity. The machine's round-bar hydrostatic slideways in each a xis are said to provide a stiff system with minimum friction. The machine uses high-resolution servomotors that are directly coupled to super-precision ballscrews, providing precise and reliable positioning through- out the entire production cycle. The UL2 allows for various machine configura- tions involving diaphragms, collet chucks, shoe centerless magnetic chuck setups and disc drive roll centerless arrangements. This machine is offered with automatic workpiece loading solu- tions for many applications, as well as in- and
