146 MMS August 2017 mmsonline.com MODERN EQUIPMENT REVIEW Through an electronic-spark-deposition process, the Rocklinizer Model 950 from Rocklin Manu- facturing deposits materials including titanium carbide, tungsten carbide and Rockhard electrodes in thicknesses from 0.0001" to 0.010" and more onto the base material. These applications all controllable to within 0.0001" by digital machine setting, the company says. METAL DEPOSITION EQUIPMENT PRECISELY APPLIES MATERIAL complete, no heat treating, grinding or other sur face treatment is necessar y, the company says. The Model 950 offers a much faster application speed than previous models, making it well-suited for coating larger parts and dies. A 5-in. 2 coating takes less than one minute via high-speed set- tings, while the process can be slowed for more delicate operations, the company says. An auto- mation option is available for coating large areas, in addition to the handheld rotary applicator. Rocklin Manufacturing Co., call 800-255-6046 or visit rocklinmanufacturingco.com. ELECTROMECHANICAL TURRET SAVES ENERGY Duplomatic Automation presents its completely electric electromechanical turret, a single direct motor and electromagnetic locking device. No extra equipment is required, simplifying installa- tion. It is designed to be eco-friendly and energy- saving, as it has no seal friction to overcome and no auxiliary equipment. It also eliminates the use of potentially polluting substances like hydraulic oil or lubricated air, and is CE- and UL-certified. The turrets are interchangeable with DM and SM turrets already in use in North America. Duplomatic Automation North America, call 704-392-0110 or visit macosermetal.com. The lower deposits are said to be ideal for preventing slug pull in punching and stamping operations, and extending the life of cutting edges and tooling. Medium deposits are best for restor- ing tolerances on bearings and shafts, as well as for die casters seeking to prevent heat checking, soldering and seizing of cores. When combined with the Rockhard electrode, the higher settings produce a rough surface well-suited for gripping a pplic ations suc h a s tub e b e nding, c ollets, clamps and feed fingers, as well as forklifts and non-slip flooring. As the electrode is deposited over the same area via the rotary applicator, the Rocklinizer fills in gaps without adding more materials to existing deposits. Only by changing the machine setting or electrode type is additional wear-resistant material added. This results in a uniform coating. Unlike welding, no appreciable heat is gener- ated, and the electrode material will not separate or flake off the workpiece. Once the process is
