The second focus will develop the elec- tron beam melting (EBM) process for producing precise, complex small- to medium-sized com- ponents. In EBM, metal powder is melted with an electron beam, again building up the component layer by layer. The partnership will support work already in progress, aiming to make this process ready for introduction into full-scale, high-volume aerospace production. MODULEWORKS, ZEISS COOPERATE ON CAD/CAM SYSTEM CAD/CAM software supplier ModuleWorks GmbH is partnering with Zeiss Industrial Metrology to develop a system that combines conventional CAM and the require- ments of ultra-precision machining into a single CAD/CAM package. The goal is to develop new machining cycles toward an integrated process chain enabling optical par ts to be machined using a single CAD/CAM system. Integrating all machining-relevant pro- c e s s e s i n a u n i f i e d system is expected to accelerate process pro- gramming for cut ting complex freeform sur- faces and to improve the qua lit y a nd c ost- efficiency of producing ultra-precision parts.
