MMS AUGUST 2018 172 mmsonline.com IMTS 2018 Turning Centers Multi-Spindle Lathe Completes Complex Parts at High Volumes Index's MS40-8 multi-spindle automatic lathe with eight CNC spindles has been designed for high-volume work in the automotive, fastener, connector and aerospace industries. The machine features two backworking spindles with up to 18 X axes, and Z-axis CNC slides and additional Y axes if required. The machine can process chucked workpieces or barstock through the company's MBL40-8 bar loader, also on display. The 110-mm chuck enables machining of pre-formed, forged or extruded parts ranging to 80 mm in length. For simple parts, the machine can be used as a double four-spindle machine, reducing cycle times. The compact spindle drum with eight fluid-cooled motorized spindles achieves up to 7,000 rpm, 24 kW of power and 57 Nm of torque. The spindles are designed for speed control, compact size and limited maintenance. Built to complete complex parts in one setup, the machine features as many as two pivoting synchronized spindles able to work on as many as seven rear-side tools, four of them live. Two rear-side tools can work simultaneously on the workpiece. Each spindle is independently programmable, enabling users to modify parameters to machine difficult materi- als. Drum indexing makes speed changes possible. Users can set up live tools on the compound slides, enabling a range of operations, such as off-center drilling, thread cutting and more. | Index Corp. | South, Level 3, Booth 338136 Multitasking Turning Center Accurately Machines Hard Materials Methods Machine Tools will be featuring the Nakamura- Tome SC-300IIMYB multitasking turning center designed for accurately machining difficult, high-hardness mate- rials. The machine features a 45-degree slant bed and boxway slides on all axes. Its 3,500-rpm main spindle has a a 3.5" (89 mm) bar capacity. A large 4.7" (120 mm) Y-axis travel and 10-hp milling function offers increased capacity, enabling fast machining with a cutting depth as much as 0.35" (9 mm). A 30/25-hp wide-range motor facilitates powerful cuts, and the turret holds 12 driven or 24 stationary tools. The machine features a 15", high-resolution, color-display LCD panel, which works in con- junction with a FANUC 0i-TF control for increased functionality, fast processing speeds and 1,280-m of part program storage length, the company says. It comes with the NT Work Navigator that recognizes the coordinates of workpieces with non-round shapes, forgings and castings. The Advanced NT Nurse System software package is also included, providing support for the machine's operation, programming and production. An "airbag" standard safety feature reduces the impact and force of a machine collision. Should a crash occur, within 4 milliseconds after the crash, servomotor-feeding direction is reversed and the machine will stop in emergency mode. | Methods Machine Tools Inc. | South, Level 3, Booth 339119
