MMS AUGUST 2018 182 mmsonline.com JEDD COLE | EDITOR | jcole@mmsonline.com IMTS 2018 Grinding and Abrasive Machining ON DISPLAY Five-Axis Tool Grinder Offers Large Grind Zone, Small Footprint Star SU's NXT tool grinder is designed to provide large-machine capabilities in a small footprint. The five-axis CNC tool grinder has few moving parts, a large grind zone, the ability to run small- and large-diameter wheels, easily configurable options and a modular design. The grinder features a 28-kW, 20,000-rpm synchronous spindle and holds tools ranging to 250 mm in diameter. The grinder's linear and rotary torque motor technology is said to elimi- nate backlash, friction effects and drive vibration. FANUC robot automation, gripper assembly rang- ing from 3 to 38 mm and NumrotoPlus grinding software are included. | Star SU LLC | North, Level 3, Booth 236909 Grinding Machines Offer Increased Workpiece Space, Enhanced Rigidity United Grinding is displaying the Walter Helitronic Power 400 and Helitronic Power Diamond 400 grinding machines, both said to offer 35 percent more workpiece space and the capability of grinding tools ranging to 380 mm (14.96") in length. They also feature remodeled machine beds with enhanced rigidity for greater vibration damping, improved part surface finishes and greater precision. A worm drive for the C axis, an optional torque motor, and pneumatically driven steady rests and tailstocks are said to improve grinding and eroding operations by reducing leaks and improving heat management for greater cleanliness. Unlike previous models, these machines accommodate gan- try-style loaders for up to 500 tools or robot loaders for up to 7,500 tools. The Diamond 400 features the company's Fine Pulse technol- ogy, and both machines are equipped with the company's Helitronic Tool Studio grinding and eroding software. | United Grinding North America Inc. | North, Level 3, Booth 236802
