MMS AUGUST 2018 190 mmsonline.com IMTS 2018 Grinding and Abrasive Machining Grinding Machine Designed for Single-Part, Series Production The Studer Favorit CNC cylindrical grinding machine, available through United Grinding, accommodates long workpieces and has a center distance of 1,600 mm (63"). The machine is designed for grinding single parts as well as for series production, and it can be fitted with auto- mation. Options include measuring control, a bal- ancing system, contact detection and longitudinal positioning for other grinding tasks. The machine bed is made of solid Granitan, which enhances precision, performance and safety. The full enclosure is said to provide an optimal view of the grinding process. The wheelhead, which can be auto- matically positioned every 3 degrees, accommodates a belt-driven external and internal grinding spindle. The company's grinding software is said to enable users with little experience to program grinding and dressing cycles quickly and efficiently. Optional Studer- Grind software enables efficient programming of special applications such as profiling the grinding wheel for complex workpiece shapes. | United Grinding North America Inc. | North, Level 3, Booth 236802 Robotic Drag Finisher Automates Cutting Tool Honing, Polishing Bel Air's AutoHone robotic reverse drag finisher improves cutting tool honing and polishing workflow with very little operator involvement. The automated system achieves short cycle times and consistent results. In the reverse drag finishing process, the machine quickly moves process media, producing a high-energy "wave" that streams across the workpiece. The machine's six-axis robotic arm enhances control and precision over the workpiece's angle of introduc- tion into the media. This results in complete, even and repeatable finishing processes. The system is modular and available options include an integrated ultrasonic cleaner and an air blow-off station. | Bel Air Finishing Supply | North, Level 3, Booth 237547 Grinding Machine Replaces Turning for Difficult Materials Erwin Junker's Grindstar grinding machine replaces turning with dressing-free, high-speed, plunge-cut grinding. The machine is designed to be an economical alternative to turning for difficult-to-machine work- pieces, high-volume production and workpieces with complex outer contours. The machine is said to shorten manufacturing time and reduce downtime, promoting long grinding wheel life, high precision and process reliability. It is capable of simultaneous grinding of the entire part contour, includ- ing the ends. It can handle difficult-to-machine, hard and soft materials. The machine grinds directly from barstock, enabling continuous, lights-out production with little supervision. Customer-specific process and tech- nology configurations are available. | Erwin Junker Machinery Inc. | North, Level 3, Booth 236839
