54 MMS March 2017 mmsonline.com SHOP TALK TITANS OF CNC OPENS PRISON MACHINE SHOP Titans of CNC: Academy has opened an advanced CNC machine shop inside San Quentin Prison in California for the training of inmates there. The effort has been led by Titan Gilroy, creator of the reality TV show "Titan," and the associated edu- cational platform, Titans of CNC: Academy. Modern Machine Shop Editor-in-Chief Peter Z e l i n s k i r e p o r t e d i n September 2016 that the show had received permission to rebuild the prison's old machine shop under the Titans o f C N C : A c a d e m y banner. In a November 2015 Facebook post, Mr. Gilroy wrote that he designed the curriculum for the prison machining program himself, and that he would personally help prepare inmates for future employment. O n the f ir st day of operation, the inmates m ad e th e ir f ir st so lid models by following one of the "Titan Tutorials," which consist of instruc- tional videos and other materials on the Titans o f C N C : A c a d e m y website. The site aims to provide a free CAD/ CAM and CNC manu- facturing educational program, with projects, video tutorials and T V episodes.
