50 MMS October 2017 mmsonline.com SHOP TALK SCHUNK USA BREAKS GROUND ON HEADQUARTERS EXPANSION Schunk USA has star te d constr uction of a n expansion at its U.S. headquarters in Morrisville, North Carolina, which will more than double the size of existing facilities. The U.S. headquarters is already the company's largest facility outside of Germany. This expansion will provide space f o r a n e w te c h c e n te r a n d t r a i n i n g f a c i l i t y, a d d i t i o n a l m a n u f a c t u r i n g c a p a b i l i t i e s a n d increased office space. The company will be investing $30 million in inf rastr ucture, e quipme nt a nd pe r sonne l by 2022. More than 80 new jobs will be created over the course of the next four years. The additional personnel will enable Schunk to provide even greater customer care and continue to meet the demands of a rapidly growing and continually evolving manufacturing industry. Two separate expan- s i o n s w i l l b e b u i l t i n p h a s e s . I n i t i a l l y, a 19 , 0 0 0 - s q u a r e - f o o t addition to the east side o f t h e b u i l d i n g w i l l expand the size of the manufacturing area by 150 percent. This will allow for greater ef f i- ciency and increased production capabilities to b e t te r r e s p o n d to customer requests and specialty orders. This addition will also double the space dedicated to the North Carolina Tri- angle Apprenticeship Program (NTCAP), allow- ing Schunk to continue to train future genera- tions of workers. A s e p a r a t e 2 2,0 0 0 - s q u a r e -f o ot, three-story addition to th e n o r th s i d e of th e building will encompass a "Tec-Center," training facility and more office space.
