MODERN EQUIPMENT REVIEW SPOTLIGHT | Coolant and Chip Management MMS JANUARY 2018 138 mmsonline.com We sold one of our $800.00 Ball Bar Kits to a young man who was having problems with his C.M.M. One week later, he called to discuss the results. His C.M.M. had just been serviced and certified by the machines manufacturer at a cost of $700.00. The Ball Bar found that the "Z" axis of his C.M.M. was out of square with the "X" axis 0.009" (0.2286mm). The "Z" to "Y" and the "X" to "Y" Axii were perfectly square. After adjust- ing, to correct the "Z"-"X" error the entire machine was within 0.0003" (0.0076mm). He wondered if we had any suggestions on how he might improve this 0.0003 error. As this was an older, manual machine, we told him that we thought this might be an acceptable accuracy. A Ball Bar-Dumbell system provides certification to ANSI B 89.4.1 or VIM-VAR. The system is said to be durable and energy-efficient, only using as much horsepower as needed to set pressure and automatically adjusting the volume to maintain it. Variable volume flow adjusts to much as 8 gpm. Pres- sure is adjusted from the system's programmable logic controller and controlled by the cutting machine's M code. Programmable pressures range from 250 to 1,000 psi, and systems have 50- or 70-gal. vertical reservoirs for use with water- or oil-based coolants. All come with two quick-change, large capacity filter bags and a machine installation kit. | MP Systems | 860-687-3460 | mp-systems.net Back-Facing Air Gun Cleans Debris from Inner Diameters Exair's soft-grip, back-blow safety air gun delivers a blast of air to blow debris and liquids from internal part features including pipe and hose inner diameters, chan- nels, bores, holes and internal threads. The ergonomic design of the air gun keeps the operator's hand com- fortable, so it can be used for hours without fatigue, the company says. An array of holes on the Model 1006SS back-blow air nozzle provides a back-facing, 360-degree airflow to clear out coolant, chips and light oils from machin- ing processes. This nozzle prevents chips from being blown further into a part, tube or pipe and eliminates the safety hazard of blowing debris out the far end of a pipe or tube, the company says. Air consumption is 22 scfm at 80 psig with a sound level of 80 dbA. The nozzle fits inside openings as small as 0.875" and can be used on diameters as large as 4". It is constructed of type 316 stainless steel for durability and corrosion resistance. The airflow that exits the nozzle cannot be blocked, which complies with OSHA standards. It is also CE-compliant. | Exair Corp. | 800-903-9247 | exair.com
