MODERN EQUIPMENT REVIEW MMS JANUARY 2018 148 mmsonline.com TURNING www.genswiss.com SOLUTIONS for swiss-style cnc's The T/TM series of turning centers, available from VDF Boehringer, an FFG company, provides a solution for high-volume production automotive OEMs, tier sup- pliers, and manufacturers and job shops performing medium- and small-batch size production. The range of applications covers shafts and chuck parts. Accord- ing to the company, the platform enables a boost in productivity with auxiliary capacities and functions for Turning Center Enables High-Volume Production complete machining of complex parts. The construction provides stability, allowing for complex and simultaneous machining operations. The beds are made of polymer concrete to provide maximum rigidity and damping. Linear roller guides promote preci- sion and improved service life. | FFG MAG 49-7161-1567-210 | ffg-werke.com T-Bed Improves Versatility with Programmable Boring Bars The Giddings & Lewis T-bed horizontal boring mill is available with a range of contouring heads and pro- grammable boring bars. These add machining versatil- ity to live-spindle horizontal boring mills by providing a programmable axis capable of turning and performing complex machining operations. The company asserts that contouring heads and programmable boring bars improve quality while decreasing cycle time and man- ufacturing costs by reducing the number of tools and setups required. With the programmable axis, feed-out tools can machine part features of varying sizes with a single tool. The live spindle's Z-axis motion moves the attachment cross slide, providing radial feed to the tool. A single tool can machine bores, tapers, grooves, chamfers, phonographic finishes and recesses of differing sizes. The T-bed boring mill is available with contouring heads able to produce bores as large as 1,250 mm (49.2") in diameter. The cutting range of the programmable boring bars is 150 to 580 mm (5.9" to 22.8"), depending on the bar size. | Fives Giddings & Lewis LLC | 920-921-9400 | fivesgroup.com Intrinsically Lubricated Grinding Wheels Reduce Friction, Wear Meister Abrasives' HPL grinding wheels rely on CBN crystals fixed with a durable, porous, intrinsically lubricated bonding matrix. This is said to enable faster grinding of difficult materials without sacrificing qual- ity from wheel loading or part burning. These wheels contain a lubrication that is intrin- sic to the bonding matrix chemistry and is released uniformly as the wheel breaks down. Wheels manu- factured with this technology minimize friction from interactions with the bond and workpiece, minimize heat generation and deter the onset of metal loading into the bond structure, the company says. The grit retention and lubricating properties of the bond make it possible to utilize high concentrations of premium-grade CBN crystals that in a standard bonding matrix would generate too much pressure and heat. This improves cutting performance and wear resistance. | Meister Abrasives USA 888-634-7837 | meister-abrasives.com/usa
