Her applica- tion, Machining Process Monitoring to Aid in Chatter Identification, was named the top entry in the MTConnect Challenge 2 contest at the [MC] 2 2014 MTConnect: Connecting Manufactur- ing Conference in Orlando, Florida. Attendees at the April event voted on five finalists to choose the top three winners. Each of the winning entries offers a creative ye t p r a c ti c a l u s e fo r th e o p e n, roya l t y-f re e M TC o n n e c t c o m m u n i c a t i o n s t a n d a r d. M s . Pez zu ll o's f ir st p l ac e a p p li c ati o n i nte g rate s m a c h i n i n g p r o c e s s d a t a g a t h e r e d t h r o u g h MTConnect with information from other tools and sensors, enabling users to monitor and analyze cutting conditions. The application helps to reduce and prevent chatter and avoid unstable operating systems, while also enhancing the tracking and organization of part information. In addition to the $100,000 first prize, a $75,000 second prize and a $50,000 third prize were also awarded. Joel Neidig of Itamco received the second place prize. His entry, Expanding Manu- facturing's Vision: MTConnect + Google Glass, leverages wearable Google Glass technology as a means of accessing MTConnect data conve- niently on the shop floor. The third prize was awarded to Shane Crandall for Promise, a cus- tomizable MTConnect client hosted as an intranet Web application. The scalable app enables users to configure views of real-time data drawn from MTConnect devices.
